The fact that there’s more than one country speaking the same language doesn’t mean they use exactly the same words. Countries have their own culture and they evolve differently from one another and therefore their common language ends up having some differences. In March and April we will bring you a few words that you can only hear in Australia.

This week’s word is “uee”. In Australia we use this term to say someone is making a U-turn. Usually we say “chuck a uee” (make a U-turn).

So if you hear someone say “He can’t chuck a uee here”, they mean the person on the other car is making a U-turn in a zone that is not permitted.

O facto de haver mais do que um país a falar a mesma língua, não significa que todos esses países utilizem exactamente as mesmas palavras.  Cada país tem a sua cultura e desenvolve-se de forma diferente dos outros e daí que a sua língua comum acabe por ter algumas diferenças. Em Março e Abril vamos trazer-lhe algumas palavras que só ouvirá na Austrália.

O termo desta semana é “uee”. Na Austrália utilizamos o termo uee dizer que alguém está a fazer inversão de marcha. Normalmente dizemos “chuck a uee” (fazer inversão de marcha).

Portanto se ouvir alguém na Austrália dizer: “He can’t chuck a uee here.”, isso significa alguém está a fazer inversão de marcha num local onde esta não é permitida.
