Re: "Effigies"
Hi Unikoman,
I take it you know what effigies are in English you're just having trouble finding out the Portuguese equivalent.
Well, actually, effigy in Portuguese is éfigie so the plural is éfigies.
Here's a dictionary definition:

I hope I have helped.

"Effigies"
Hi there,
I'm Unikoman and I live in Sydney for 20 years.
I'm not a translator, but as I have some relatives and friends who have some difficulties about the English language, I use to translate some articles from Australian newspapers and magazines so they can read them.
But my Portuguese skills are not as good as the English ones as I moved to Australia at a very young age, so I though maybe someone in this forum could help me on this.
The article is from Sydney Morning Herald and is about the United States Presidential Election and the candidate Barack Obama. And my doubt is regarding to the word "effigies"... I can't remember the equivalent word in Portuguese. Would you help me on this?
Here is a part of the article:
Thank you very much.
Regards
Unikoman

Here is a part of the article:
A University of Kentucky student and another man have been arrested, accused of hanging a life-sized likeness of Barack Obama from a tree on the campus.
The incident was one of several in recent weeks involving effigies of the presidential candidates or their running mates.
Thank you very much.
Regards
