In October we revisit a subject that is quite important and sometimes causes a few issues, I’m talking about medical terms. For some, it may be hard to understand the medical jargon in their own language, let alone in another language. That’s why we bring you a few terms regarding either conditions or procedures that may help you understand this amazing field.

This week’s terms is jaundice. It is a condition that causes yellowing of the skin and eye due to abnormal presence of bile pigments in the blood. This may be caused by other serious illnesses such as hepatitis or cirrhosis. In Portuguese it is translated as “icterícia”.

Em Outubro voltamos a um tema bastante importante e que, por vezes, causa alguns problemas. Falo de termos médicos. Para alguns perceber o jargão médico já é complicado na sua língua materna, quanto mais quando estamos noutra língua. É por essa razão que lhe trazemos alguns termos referentes quer a doenças ou distúrbios clínicos ou procedimentos médicos, que o ajudarão a entender este excelente tema.

O termo desta semana é “jaundice” que é uma doença que causa o amarelecimento da pele e dos olhos devido à presença anómala de pigmentos biliares no sangue. Isto pode ser causado por outras doenças sérias, tais como a hepatite e a cirrose. Em português traduz-se por icterícia.
