False friends: Appointment/Apontamento

Post by Kangas on Tue Aug 14, 2012 11:01 am

Here is another example of false friends: Appointment and apontamento. These two nouns can often be confused and believed to mean the same. But they're not.

Don't be confused by their similarity. In English, "appointment" means engagement, consultation, arrangement. If you wanted translate it to portuguese you could use "consulta" (medical), "marcação","compromisso". In Portuguese, "apontamento" means annotation, note.
