For those who live in a foreign country and are not fluent in the language of that country, going to the doctor is one of those very difficult tasks and they may struggle to understand what the doctor say and even explain their symptoms to the doctor. This is quite common especially among the elderly. This month we will be talking about these terms that may cause some difficulty when dealing with a medical situation.

This weeks’s expression is “MRI”.  This is a medical imaging procedure that uses the magnetic field and radio waves to take pictures inside the body. In Portuguese the correct translation is “Imagiologia por Ressonância Magnética” or “IRM”, but it is commonly referred as “Ressonância Magnética” only.

Para quem viva num país estrangeiro e não seja fluente na língua desse país, uma visita ao médico é uma daquelas tarefas que pode ser bastante complicadas, pois podem ter dificuldade em perceber o que o médico lhes diz, ou até em explicar os seus sintomas ao médico. É uma situação bastante comum, especialmente entre os mais idosos. Este mês iremos falar sobre esses termos que podem causar alguns problemas, quando lidamos com uma situação médica.

A palavra desta semana é “MRI”. Este é um teste de imagiologia médica que utiliza o campo magnético e ondas de rádio para obter imagem do interior do corpo. Em português a tradução correcta é “Imagiologia por Ressonância Magnética” ou “IRM”, mas é regularmente referida apenas como “Ressonância Magnética”.
