Going on holidays is always a very exciting time especially when you go on holidays overseas. But the Tourism Industry uses a few terms that may confuse some of us. And sometimes when visiting a foreign country you find that some of those terms are not translated properly making it even more difficult.

First of all it is important to understand what they mean in your own language so then you can easily find its translation for the language you require.

This week we talk about Continental Breakfast. Surely you have seen this when trying to book a hotel, but do you know what it is?

Continental Breakfast stands in opposition to English Breakfast. Its name comes from the distinction between continental Europe versus England.  Of course you will find differences in the traditional breakfast of every European country, but in this case, a Continental Breakfast usually refers to a “French style” breakfast with coffee, jam, butter, croissants or toast and cereal. It depends on the hotel, some include eggs as well.

Para além disso, por vezes quando visitamos um país estrangeiro verificamos que esses termos não estão devidamente traduzidos, o que torna tudo ainda mais difícil.

Primeiramente, é muito importante entender o que estes termos significam na sua língua materna, para que depois os possa traduzir facilmente para a língua desejada.

Esta semana falamos de Pequeno-almoço Continental. Certamente já viu esta expressão ao tentar marcar estadia num hotel, mas sabe do que se trata?

O Pequeno-almoço Continental existe por oposição ao Pequeno-almoço Inglês. O seu nome aparece da distinção entre a Europa continental e a Inglaterra. Claro que irá encontrar diferentes tipos de pequeno-almoço tradicional em cada um dos diferentes países europeus, mas neste caso, um Pequeno-almoço Continental normalmente refere-se a um pequeno de “estilo francês” com café, doce, manteiga, croissants ou torradas e cereais. Depende do hotel, alguns podem também oferecer ovos.
